TOP ATTRACTIONS IN DUBAI
Burj Khalifa
The majestic towering height of the Burj Khalifa has earned it the title of the ‘World’s Tallest Building.’ Centrally located in the Downtown area of Dubai, the gleaming silver skyscraper has become an important landmark for Dubai residents serving as a compass that helps navigate through the city. The monumental tower draws design inspiration from the Hymenocallis flower and also employs Islamic architecture. With 170 floors, the mixed-use tower features swanky fine-dining restaurants, upscale residential apartments, premium office spaces and corporate suites, a five-star designer hotel, top of the line fitness and recreation facilities including swimming pools as well as public observatory where visitors can view the Dubai skyline from a soaring height, perhaps matched only by an airplane flying at that height.
Dubai Creek
The busy, bustling trade cities of Bur Dubai and Deira are separated by the historic Deira Creek. Both cities have acquired the reputation of being hotspots for textile trade. In the past, the creek has served as a minor port and for a long time, it remained Dubai’s only harbor thus establishing itself as a commercial hub. From across the creek on the Bur Dubai side, one can clearly view iconic buildings such as the Dubai Twin Towers, the Chamber of Commerce, Dubai Creek Tower, Sheraton Dubai Creek and National Bank. The ‘Abra’ or small Arabic boat sails across the creek transporting passengers from one side to the other. The larger, dramatically lit ‘dhow’ boat cruises provide for a splendid sight both during the day and at night.
Palm Jumeirah
Palm Jumeirah is an artificial island off the shores of the Jumeirah area of Dubai. Although not visible by those standing on ground, an aerial view of the island will reveal that the man-made marvel is designed in the shape of a Palm Tree surrounded by a crescent. The island is the first offering in a trio of revolutionary man-made islands collectively called the Palm Islands. A bridge connects mainland Dubai to the island. The Palm Jumeirah features three hotels, upscale residential apartment buildings, world-class restaurants, and premium retail outlets. The island has been constructed using sand reclaimed from the sea floor. The Middle East’s first monorail system ‘the Palm Jumeirah Monorail’ was built to transport 40,000 people across the island every day.
